intimate auditary trip for babies between 0 and 14 months
BAST is an ongoing research project
What does the world sound like when you are inside a body, surrounded by gurgling and pounding noises?
And somewhere outside are sounds which suggest something else.
And voices that are strange and yet familiar.
With this installation De Spiegel experiments with taking very young children on a trip that floats almost purely on sound.
This auditory rib cage, in which you can feel as well as hear sound, was developed by De Spiegel in collaboration with the IPEM (Institute for Psychoacoustics and Electronic Music, a Ghent University research institute for systematic musicology).
Before entrance we would llike to record your voice in the BAST-soundscape. Two artists welcome you into a pleasant circular installation. They immerse you in a three-dimensional sound blanket with recognizable and abstract sounds and voices, which move palpably around you. An intimate world to explore with your ears. From start to finish this auditary trip lasts about an hour.
An extraordinary experience for babies aged 0 to 14 months, who are all ears!
